The Garfield County Clerk and Recorder’s Office vital records system is being upgraded and is unavailable from noon on Friday, Dec. 29, 2023, to noon on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024. The clerk’s office will not be able to research or print birth and death certificates at this time. The clerk’s office apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and thanks the public for its patience and understanding.Navy Seabees:
The first set is free to those who qualify, and $50 for a second set. This style is available to those who are an active or former member of the US Navy Construction Battalion (CBs).Born to Be Wild:
The cost is $50, with an annual fee of $50. Funds generated from the purchase of this plate will fund programs and tools to minimize conflict and maximize understanding of wolves and other native carnivores.Stegosaurus Fossil:
The cost is $25, and requires a $50 donation to Friends of Dinosaur Ridge, prior to your visit to the motor vehicle office. The plate was designed to raise awareness of Colorado’s phenomenal fossil history and encourage people to learn more about Colorado’s geological heritage by visiting sites around the state that feature dinosaur fossils.In God We Trust:
The cost is $25, with no annual fee. Colorado is the 21st state to offer a plate to honor our nation’s motto.More information
Motor vehicle express kiosk coming soon
Garfield County is anticipating installation of a Colorado Motor Vehicle Express Kiosk in Rifle, tentatively scheduled for early 2024. The self-service motor vehicle kiosk will offer a fast and easy way to renew your vehicle registration, obtain a duplicate registration, replace your registration tab, and check the status of a title. Residents of any participating county in Colorado are able to utilize express kiosks, statewide. You can find out more information online.Public records

The Clerk & Recorder’s office is responsible for voter registration, the conducting of all primary, general, and November coordinated elections, motor vehicle titling and registration, real estate and other recordings, marriage licenses, birth and death records, liquor licenses and recording the proceedings of the Board of County Commissioners.- Elections
